This Brazilian image is part of the Afro-Brazilian collection from the renowned Imagens Bahia factory. This gesso bust of Escrava Anastácia belongs to the 18cm-W class. The colors and actual dimensions of the images may differ from those shown on your screen due to display settings and our photo editing. The stated dimensions are nominal and do not represent the exact measurements of the image; they indicate the size classification or group into which the image falls. This class may consider only the height and/or width and length of the statue (for example, a kneeling figure will have a different height than the same figure standing or with raised arms but will be wider. All could belong to the same class). Brief legend of Escrava Anastácia: Legend has it that Anastácia was a slave who served as a healer/miracle worker, helping and curing those around her. Her healing abilities were matched by her extraordinary beauty, which attracted the attention of men around her. The slave was sentenced to repeated beatings and forced to wear the iron mask of Flanders (a mask that prevented any food intake) for refusing to surrender her virginity to her master. These punishments proved fatal, and Anastácia died from these torments, her beauty marred by the constant use of the mask. There is a sanctuary dedicated to Escrava Anastácia in Rio de Janeiro. As this is a bust, it stands approximately 15cm tall.
